Works fine, but a couple of caveats. Bought this to replace a First Alert detector, which was starting to show its age after 5 years. I'm hoping the X-Sense will last longer.Installation was straightforward. The mounting bracket is roughly the same diameter as the First Alert, but has 3 holes compared to the First Alert's 2 holes, so I had to drill 2 new holes (I used one of the holes from the First Alert bracket). The take-home message here is, don't expect an immediate installation if you're transitioning from First Alert to X-Sense, and be sure you have the capability of drilling holes before you order this item.I'm deducting one star because X-Sense uses an odd (uncommon) battery size, 123CR, which may cause problems down the line if I need to replace the battery (not to mention added expense). My old First Alert used a couple of AA cells, and replacement was a breeze (the batteries were accessible from the front of the unit, vs. the X-Sense) and not at all costly compared to the X-Sense.
